My doctors words were said with pure excitement as they flowed from his smiling lips. His eyes communicated hope and welcomed me into a new phase of my life. My cancer was in remission. This was that moment I had been dreaming about, but never thought would ever come to be.
As I sat on the on the all too familiar plush examination table that day, so many emotions took over residence in my body. I felt happy, yet confused. Excited yet lost. Cold and warm. I was no longer sick, but didn’t exactly feel well.
I was stuck.
Oh, I was a survivor, no doubt. By the grace of God, my life was spared and somehow I was given this amazing second breath of life. I had lost two dear friends during my battle. No way could I take this second for granted.
I felt the urge to move forward, but I had no clue what to move forward to.
What do survivors do?
See Bethany, I have come to save you. You will trust in Me and not be afraid. I, the LORD GOD am your strength and your song; Bethany, I have given you victory. With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation! In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the LORD! Praise Your name!” Tell the nations what I have done. Let them know how mighty I AM! (Isaiah 12:3-4 NLT) Feel free to add your name for mine.

I have overcome disabilities (coloboma vision-loss, severe hearing-loss and a small right arm). I am a double brain cancer survivor. I use the story God has given me to move beyond what I am surviving and thrive in His promises. I enjoy being a wife to Steve for over 12 years and mother to three boys (ages 9, 7 and 4).
