One of the most valuable and too often overlooked gifts we possess is our STORY. God has brought us through some of the darkest storms so that we can sprinkle His Promises on others when they need it the most.
I remember the first time I looked at the table of contents for what is now “UnMasked: The Journey from Surviving to Thriving.” It was a mere 20 minutes after I had been arguing with God that I could not write a book because, alas, I did not have an outline. I thought I was writing a journal entry. God had other plans, obviously.
I remember the day I sat alone, curled up on the leather couch in our little town library. Again, I looked over the table of contents and shook my head. “God, I can’t do this. I can’t share this much of myself. What will people think? What will people say?”
You read right.
The UnMasked book that is here today was the result of a long, drawn out battle with God. It took an entire year to even begin writing the first chapter. But before I started any writing, I journaled a prayer, as tears of fear and excitement dripped onto the page, I began praying this same prayer daily as each chapter came to be in God’s perfect timing. That prayer is included at the very beginning of my book. I thought I would share that here today:
Abba Father –
You already know the thoughts and words that have built up in my mind for this book in progress. I need You to be the focus, the passion and the foundation of what readers find within the lines of these pages. Please, draw so close to me now as I want to be with You through this journey. Allow this book to be a testimony of a life completely transformed in You and through a love that can only be found rooted in Your Truths. Prepare the hearts of those that will find themselves wrapped in the words contained in the following chapters. Call them out by name, Abba Daddy; wrap Your arms around these children and claim them as Your own. As they read through this book, allow them to sit on Your lap, breathe in deeply the fullness of Your peace and rest in Your presence. I give this work and the readers who find hope in this message to You today.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
When we allow others to see the stories that make us vulnerable, real and unmasked, we invite others to embrace a God Who brings purpose to the pain.
Your story matters.
Your story brings others into God’s story and enables them to tell their story.
I hope you will prayerfully consider joining the others already submitting their unmasked stories. I want this series to bring real connections, hope, authenticity and a chance for you to discover God’s gift to you through telling your story. Click HERE to share your story!
