No Cookie Cutters Allowed

Resting_In_His_Word_Wednesday.JPG

Oh the joy the famous cookie cutter brings to our home! Every year, my husband clears the kitchen table, I grab the flour and we both dig really deep for extra patience. Why? Making cookies with three young, energetic boys is exhausting! Messy…yes. Fun…no doubt.

But as I held our little gingerbread man cookie cutter in my hand, the chaos around me just stopped. It was a thought and a moment I just can’t forget.

You have more to offer this world than a cookie-cutter faith.

I wanted to include a personal video with my post today, instead of simply hiding behind my written words. To go beyond the cookie cutter, requires doing things outside of your pre-defined comfort zone. Here we go!

    • Thanks Mary! There is a reason the tree was a bit OUT of the picture…partly because only the top half is decorated due to climbers in the family! Love that YOU were my first comment today!!

  1. Bethany, thank you for this message reminding me that God has created me as His and as only one of me. I am not a cookie cutter me and that I want to allow Him to mold me and love me into the creation He has made. Glad you are a neighbor at Meredith’s today.

    • Karrilee – You hit the nail on the head! Granted, the message of truly acting like a child of God by getting rid of our cookie-cutter faith was important…but you hit the biggest point this was for me today! It’s more than just writing about faith, its actually DOING it. Whew…thank you!!

    • Ha Sarah! I loved my little play dough man there…it actually took me a few tries to get him looking descent…seriously, reaffirmed my struggle with cookie cutters! Thanks so much…means a lot coming from you!

  2. I enjoyed your video. Such truth and conviction. No cookie cutters allowed. Who knew you could get so much out of baking cookies. Besides the fun and mess their was a great message. Thanks for sharing.

    • You are welcome Amanda! I think God is always showing us these “a-ha” moments…I just miss many because I’m moving way too fast. Glad I stopped long enough to let this one soak in.

  3. Bethany, you are so brave. I’ve been too scared to post a v-log. I think I might have to step outside my cookie cutter thoughts and try one. You are so right…none of us are created the same. It was fun to watch and see you my friend!

    • Thank you Tara! I’m starting my journey with public speaking…which is, ahem, public. Sometimes I feel like I hide behind my words as a writer. Putting this video out there was a way of saying “Ok, here I am Lord, use me.” More to come I believe!
