WORD FOR THE WEEK: BLESSING
If you were fortunate to read the excitement in my post from last week, you will remember that my tribe was busy packing for a trip. An adventure indeed beyond their dreams.
A journey to which my kids were clueless as to the final destination.
After close to three hours of road travel time (and bathroom breaks) our full van finally turned into the parking lot. My boys just sat there, somewhat disappointed…
There was no motel or paradise.
There was no movie theater.
There definitely wasn’t a pool.
But there was a little sign with two very important words…
I waited as they looked around…
“Mom, where is the motel?”
“Mom, why is that guy taking our bags out of the van?”
“Hey look, there is a sign…
“It’s says….it says…SERIOUSLY?!?!
Yes sweet friends, we went on a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas and we successfully kept the secret from our guys the entire month! I for one was excited that I was able to keep this in for so long! This, my friends, is one of the perks of living in Florida! Easier access to these quick vacations!
My favorite moment of blessing on this journey came as a complete surprise to me. You see, we had so many amazing highlights:
If you have ever ventured onto a cruise, you know that there is always something you can do. To find a little secluded area of quiet can sometimes be a bit difficult (but with three kids, I was expecting anything but quiet in all honesty). But the last night, God touched my heart in the most amazing way.
Our entire family had made our way to the very top of the ship to play one last round of miniature golf. It was well after 10pm in the evening, but our three boys were completely wired. They quickly made their way to the very front of the ship while we waited for golf balls and putters. We looked up into the beautiful star-filled sky. It was quiet and it was if all of us just exhaled deeply together. I met eyes with each of my boys as they stared endlessly into the sky. We looked for the North star and then the Big Dipper. We just laughed as the wind from the moving ship hit our face.
Yes friends, I even recreated the scene from the Titanic movie “Look Jack, I’m flying, I’m flying!”
It was in the midst of the stars, the gentle wind and the giggles that I felt God gently hold my heart close to His. In a world filled with so much noise, He continually draws me into the simple quietness of His love. There will always be so much to do, but truly these moments of just stopping together is what I long for the most.
“Bethany, I determine the number of stars and call them each by name” Psalms 147:4 NIV
I am blessed because He knows my name and I am His.
I am blessed by three amazing boys.
I am blessed to be loved.
I am blessed to sit under the stars every night with the Creator Himself.
Have you stepped away from the noise to rest in the quietness of His love? You indeed are blessed my friends!
Now to continue unpacking….unpacking our sandy memories 🙂
Dare to do more than just survive, step out (under the stars) and THRIVE!
How is God blessing you lately? Where do you encounter God on a daily basis? I’d love to read your comments below!
