Now, let’s move on to Resting In His Word…
Hello, my name is Bethany and I have doubted God’s desire to protect me.
It seems so easy to trust God when my husband is happy, my kids are well behaved, finances are solid and grocery shopping is actually fun.
…Okay, not all of these occur at the same time…ever. No, I’m not anywhere near that organized. But I do feel secure when my little world is rolling along without too many bumps.
But then the dark clouds appear and the road ahead is unclear. The bumps seem to come out of nowhere. I feel alone. I feel hurt. I’ve even felt abandoned by God during dark times in my life.
When dark clouds roll in, I’ve caught myself silently uttering, “God, I don’t know if I can trust You right now.”
I said it while packing and unpacking moving boxes.
I deeply sobbed those words waking-up to yet another dreaded day of chemo.
I fiercely shouted every syllable the day I was told the tumor was growing.
I muttered this in-between laughs after the tumors could no longer be located.
Sometimes, trusting God requires a deeper source. We are going right to the root.
And now Bethany, just as you accepted Me as your Lord, you must continue to follow Me. Let your roots grow down into Me, and let your life be built on Me. Then your faith will grow strong in the Truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:6, 7 NLT)
This passage shows me how I can build stronger trust in the real, not defined by my “little bumps in the road,” Abba Daddy. Yes, that’s right. God is bigger than our bumps.
1. Just welcoming God into your life is not enough – that’s not following. Perhaps that’s why I crave calling Him my Abba because it begs for an ongoing relationship. Friends, just because you have welcomed Jesus into your life does not mean you walk with Him on a daily, ongoing basis. There is a big difference. To follow requires sacrifice on your part, He’s already given-up more than enough for you.
2. You need to place your roots into His promises. These passages I highlight on Wednesdays are the result of amazing conversations with Abba. Each passage has been given to me at a unique time that has brought me so much closer to Him. I even list how I got the passage and what was going on in my life at that specific time. I can’t begin to tell you the security I began to experience when I pulled out my Truths given to me from my Abba and began to read down His promises one by one. As I saw Him provide, my roots began to grow. There is power in His Truth friends if we allow them to take root!
3. Thankfulness is more than turkey. Seriously. When you can see God – the God as described in the Bible living out His promises in your little, insignificant bumpy life, there is only one reaction to have. Because, those who have experienced God move mountains in their lives once stood gasping, ambushed in the shadow of their permanent life Evrest. They have felt helpless, alone and scared. But now, they are different. They truly believe in His promises. They witnessed mountains hurled into the sea. Thank You Abba.
Where are you today friend? How are your roots?
Here is my challenge for you during these Wednesday’s we spend together. Start a list of the Bible passages we go through together. Write out the passage we discuss and be bold enough to put your name into His Truth. Place these verses in places you need to see them the most. You may try index cards or even writing it on your bathroom mirror. If you are a techy person like myself, record His promises in an app on your phone (always there when you need His Truth the most).
What do you say? Can we do this together? Let’s start growing us some roots!
