Get Packed And Stay Steady

This post is part of the Five Minute Friday community. Bloggers are given a word to write on for – you guessed it – 5 minutes! Want to join us? Join Kate and others HERE.

WORD FOR THE WEEK: STEADY

Yesterday the chaos of packing began. We have three boys ages 4, almost 7 and 9. I positioned myself in the safest area possible in our living room and called out articles of clothing to be packed. As each item was called, our older boys would run back to their rooms and find the needed number of that particular selection of clothing to be packed. I would then make the final determination and then add the clothes to their suitcase.

“Socks!” I called and the patter of feet and elbows brushing through the hallway echoed through our bustling house.

“Mom, how many do we need?” I stopped to think myself and answered back “At least 5 pairs please” (because moms of boys know that they get far more than just one use out of each pair!).

We packed underwear…

Shirts

Shorts

Dress shirts

Dress pants

Pajamas

And would you know it, my kids have NO CLUE where they are going! That’s right, never once did they stop to ask about the motel name, or if they were swimming.

All they know is that:

  • We are leaving soon
  • They are pretty much packed and
  • That we are going to the same place as a family.

They have a trust in me and my husband that humbles me to the core. They don’t care where they go as long as we are with them. That, friends, is steady faith.

As a mom, I can hardly wait to show them our final destination. They have a very rough idea, but nothing can prepare them for where we are going (and I’ll update you dear friends once we go!). I’ve been dreaming about the “big reveal” moment. I can’t wait to see the look on their faces! I can’t wait just to spend time together as a family. Yes, the anticipation is driving this momma a bit crazy – but SO worth it!

I believe God has a heart of anticipation as well.

Imagine what He knew before the Israelites made the journey across the dry ground of the Red Sea!

Did He smile when Joshua and his men rounded the last lap around Jericho as the walls began to shake a bit?

Did God blink even for a second as Jesus was led into the desert to be tempted?

Was Jesus smiling as He listened to the disciples scream (like girls my boys say) as He walked on water?

I wish I could see Jesus’ face as He motioned for Peter to join Him on that very sea!

My point here is simple – too many times our thoughts and emotions are tied to our present circumstances. We pack our bags because we believe God is calling us to move out, but we forget to trust Him in all of the details. We believe we need a specific plan, we need to know exactly where He is taking us and all the choices we need to make along the way.

Where is the excitement in this kind of thinking?

Where is the trust in this plan?

Bethany, now you see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then you will see everything with perfect clarity. All that you know now is partial and incomplete, but then you will know everything completely, just as I now know you completely. (‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭12‬ NLT)

Bethany, My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
So now Bethany,  you can be glad to boast about your weaknesses, so that My power can work through you.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬
Bethany, I always lead you in triumph in Christ, and through you diffuse the fragrance of My knowledge in every place. For you are to Me the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. (‭II Corinthians‬ ‭2‬:‭14-15‬ NKJV)

Steady is not knowing where you are going, but Who you are going with.

Steady is a lifestyle of awe in Who God is.

Steady is trust in the most exciting way.

Steady is not safe and requires raw faith.

Steady is living in the moment that God has called us into experiencing with Him.

Share which “steady” phrase resonated the most with you:

Are you feeling steady today? Don’t forget Who is holding you!

Dare to do more than just survive, step out (stay steady) and THRIVE!

Now excuse me, I need to get packing!

I’d love to hear how God has been calling you to step out in faith in your everyday life. Are you steady today? Why or why not? Leave me a comment below.

Bethany, each of your statements resonates with me in one way or another. But, my favorite Steady is not knowing where you are going, but Who you are going with. I can’t wait to find out where you’re going. Have fun wherever it is. Visiting from #FMFParty

cannot wait for the BIG reveal and Update! Have a blast! “Steady is not knowing where you are going, but Who you are going with” – that would be me right now – a bit shaky but taking that step leaning on the Steady Arms of Jesus <3

What a fun adventure! I would have loved that as a child. My favorite quote is the first one. Glad to meet you–I’m #19 at #fmf this week.

    Sarah,
Watching them pack was indeed amazing! I didn’t do anything like that as a child either (hoping they remember this!). Thanks for joining in the discussion this week!

What an exciting reminder…that this walk of faith we are on is exciting! Yes, it can be intimidating but when we will have the trust like that of a child – life is not only steady but just as exciting as your upcoming trip is to your boys!

Steady is not knowing where you are going, but Who you are going with. – Love that one!!

Thanks for your post – and glad to meet you from FMF! Hope your family has a wonderful vacation!!

I LOVE this! It never ceases to amaze me how I understand God’s heart for me so much more through my relationship with my children.

    Bethany says June 30, 2017

    Anita,
Right?!?! I never knew the closeness of my relationship with my kids would also allow me to grow deeper in love with God. Totally amazing 🙂 Thank you for dropping in my friend!
